Welcome to Yorkist - a new local paper covering York, but in a different way.

Every week we send out just a few articles, going in depth on the city's big stories. We provide a mix of short-form reads, as well as investigations, features and long-reads, plus lots of round-ups and event updates to help you make the most out of living in Yorkshire's best city. We have a website, but the best way to experience us is to sign up to our emails, where you'll never miss an important story.

Our model isn't built like the other news sites in York - we're not about ads. Instead, we're built on paying subscribers who back us to publish stories we all care about. Our paying members get exclusive articles as well as knowing they're supporting local journalism trying to make a difference. Our subscribers hold us accountable.

This new initiative is from Luke - a PR who was born in York and is proud to call this region his home. He knows too well that local news has changed to serve clickbait and trendy topics to earn Google Ad revenue - and don't we all deserve better than that.
